Want an easy way to make Paleo hot chocolate (and AIP too) without any hassle? This mix can be made ahead of time and all you need to do is scoop out a bit, add your fave dairy-free milk, heat, and drink!
When you've got that craving for some hot chocolate, but the mixes from the store are a no-go because they (a) contain tons of yucky ingredients or (b) cost more than the mortgage on your house, what do you do?
Make your own mix!
It's seriously easy to do – takes like 5 minutes from start to finish, and then you have a pre-made mix you can use to have hot chocolate in minutes.
Makes a Fantastic Gift Idea
It also makes a fantastic gift idea to give to someone.
It's inexpensive and easy to make, and something they can actually use!
I suggest putting it in a clear cellophane bag and maybe placing it in a pretty mug. Add a card with instructions and you are set!
See below for a free printable that I have whipped up that you can use as the gift tag.
And if you so choose, you can also give them homemade marshmallows as well! (Which are Paleo & AIP-compliant)
How to Make the Paleo Hot Chocolate Mix
I made a Facebook Live video about this showing you how easy it is to make (posted on YouTube so everyone can watch it)
Free Printable Hot Chocolate Gift Tag!
Use this free printable as a gift tag!
It's a PDF document so all you need to do is open it up and print and cut apart with scissors.
No fancy crafting skills needed!
This is best if you print it on cardstock (you know, for the gift tag-y effect) but I don't think anyone would mind if just use regular 8.5″ x 11″ paper.
The PDF is for 6 gift tags.

I have Hashimoto’s and haven’t touched beans for years…..including carob. I’m confused that it is on the AIP permitted foods list.
It’s because we only eat the ground-up dried pods and not the seeds. Most people tend to do ok with it, however it is a high-FODMAP food so sometimes it causes irritation with people that have a sensitivity to those.
Don’t suppose you have a sugar free version. My diet is like yours, but also toss in Candida–which means zero sugar. Thanks.
You could just skip the sugar or add a sugar substitute that you can have.
This has been the best paleo hot chocolate that I’ve tried so far and I had it with water since I’ve run out of my coconut milk. Do you think it would work just as well to put the mix in a cup and then add your heated milk or water?
Yeah, I’d imagine that’d work just fine as well!
Hi! I’m new to Paleo lifestyle… started with AIP and have been able to reintroduce most Paleo foods… I’m curious what type of cocoa powder you use? I can’t seem to find one without additives of sorts…
I use Anthony’s Cocoa Powder, but Navitas also makes a Cacao powder that doesn’t have any additives. The Anthony’s I get online (https://amzn.to/2Fid2ne ) but you can typically find the Navitas at a place like Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, Sprouts, or a health food store.
I just found this recipe. I tried a different one last night but I can’t wait to try this one next. Your blog and photos are absolutely beautiful, btw.
Thanks so much Meghann! Hope you enjoy the hot chocolate.
Wow, what a great idea for the holidays!! I’ll bet they would be amazing with those AIP chocolate chip cookies too 🙂
Thanks so much Dana!
