Making your own bronzer is a simple task. You just need 4 ingredients from your pantry: Arrowroot Powder, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Cocoa Powder.

So… it's winter. The sun might come out, but unless you are lucky enough to go on a tropical vacation you probably don't have that nice warm glow on your face. It's probably more of a pasty white.

Not exactly the most flattering look.

While adding a little color to your face with something like my DIY Blush can definitely help, a little bronzer can add a bit of that sun-kissed look.

Of course you can use this at any time of the year, especially if you don't have any ability to tan, tend to burn more than tan, or try to avoid sun exposure.

DIY Bronzer

Making your own bronzer is a simple task. You just need 4 ingredients from your pantry: Arrowroot Powder (cheapest I have found is from Thrive Market), Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Cocoa Powder.

You add small amounts of each into a bowl and mix, customizing perfectly to your skin color and desire.

DIY Bronzer

Need it to be darker? Add more cocoa powder.

Need a bit more of a bronze? Add more cinnamon.

Need it to be lighter? Add more arrowroot powder.

I recommend making this near a mirror so you can customize it as you test it out on your face.

Note: Cinnamon can be irritating to skin and some people are allergic to it, so if you are worried about this, do a small patch test on your neck or under your chin.

If your powder is kind of chunky and doesn't sit well on your face, you can do a few things to make it smoother:

  • use a mortar and pestle to grind it into a finer powder
  • use a food processor or coffee/spice grinder to grind into a finer powder
  • sift through a fine mesh sieve

To use, just dip a large powder brush into the powder and then knock off the excess. Brush across your cheeks, nose, and forehead.
